true to SUU

disclaimer: i just finished this post and realized it basically became the journal entry i never wrote... so please excuse the length.

well i thought i better give the update on last weekend before it becomes just a figment of my imagination.

seriously, this is how homecoming should be every year. it was like i was in the movies.

lets start the week out with monday. it was just a normal day...except that they had karaoke in the student center. i must say that i have NEVER laughed to myself sooooo hard. i couldn't contain it. was weeping just walking down the hall! (i have witnesses). some people try really hard...but not everyone is meant to be a singer. i mean that in the best way. but really, such a great form of entertainment.

one of the ambassadors (amie) was in the miss SUU pageant on tuesday so naturally we all went to support her. on monday night we prepared for the miss SUU pageant by watching miss universe and making posters and cut-outs of amie's face. we cheered really loud. i may or may not have lost my voice. afterwards, a few of us began construction on the masterpiece that is the PA float for the homecoming parade.
the crew with our posters. i forgot to mention that amie won first attendant!

we had to document our first "tagging" experience.

...mostly it was just spray painting a piece of wood, but it was still a nice time!
wednesday i got to watch courtney (once again) dominate at powder-puff football! she is a champ. if i had the choice, i would have named her MVP. nice work court. thursday night there was a pep rally and fireworks. unfortunately, i didn't have my camera with me to document the events but they were fantastic. my favorite moment was standing by the Vice President for Student Services and having her get upset at someone who was wearing an Oregon Ducks sweatshirt. "We've got to get you a new sweatshirt. You are at an SUU homecoming event and you're wearing and Oregon sweatshirt?!" she was appalled to say the least. so, i learned my lesson. not that i would ever wear another school's stuff anyway, but if i did i would be in some serious trouble with multiple people at this school. after the fireworks they had a "car smashing". personally, i don't see the point in spray painting a car to take turns smashing it with a sledgehammer but apparently it's pretty cool.

then friday came.

this is where the fairytale part comes in to play.

president benson had a giant fundraising campaign kick-off on the upper quad. called "the future is rising: the campaign for southern utah university". first of all, the location. the upper quad is basically the heart of campus. we were surrounded by buildings that they had projected red light onto. (way legit i know). students, alumni, faculty and staff, and community members were all invited. it was basically a giant party celebrating SUU. free food, free stuff, live music, giant fireworks show, mixed in with some major SUU pride...it was an amazing night. for part of president benson's speech he had 200 students carry candles around the quad to show how "our future is rising". pretty awesome if you ask me!

the bell tower is my favorite part of campus...so of course i took every picture by it!

i was trying to take a picture of how many people were there. you can kind of tell... there was A LOT.

courtney and i

reunited with our good friend dani!

us with the big man himself!

and i forgot to mention the ice sculpture. that was pretty awesome.

this truly was the best event i have ever attended at SUU. i loved every minute of it! i am so grateful to be a part of this community and university. for MUCH better pictures of the event check this out.

on saturday the PA's debuted their float in the homecoming parade! we made our golf cart into a boom box and we all dressed 80's and blasted some michael jackson. it was a blast! thanks to my good friend kenzie for loaning me some fashionable 80's gear and rebekah for the classy blue eyeshadow, i was ready to go! it was such a fun time and i love spending the day with the ambassadors.  i also had my first tailgating experience complete with delicous hot dogs! my family knows i have been craving them all summer and i finally had one on saturday. hooray! at the football game, (p.s. we DOMINATED), courtney and i were chosen to be part of a dance contest. it was hilarious. i wish i had it on film, but unfortunately i do not. but we got on the jumbo tron and it was great! plus, (thanks to the cheering of the PA's and court's sorority) we almost won!

decked out in our 80's!

cassette tapes are awesome.

presidential ambassadors. love them.

trying to get the crowd going!

courtney and i trying to get people to vote for us! we are great dancers.

LOVE the red mountain.

so, if you couldn't tell, i love my school.

life is good.
